When most people think of a bachelor party, they tend to think of activities that might best be studiously ignored.  While those parties still exist, it is also true that not all gentlemen want or plan that sort of party.  Grooms tend to get pushed back out of the limelight when weddings are organized, so it is only fair that the groom does get one fun night out before the big day.  Typically, the best man is in charge of the bachelor party planning, though the ushers and the fathers of the couple may well also be involved.

Bachelor parties are getting more and more creative there days. Some groups of guys plan a golf outing or a professional sporting event as the centerpiece of the day, usually with dinner and drinks planned for after the game. Others get more ambitious and plan outings such as paintball tournaments.  Taking a cue from brides, there are even full weekend getaways that come about as a result of the bachelor party planning. It has become a very common touch to add a limo and driver to the festivities, so that there are no 'designated driver' issues and so that everyone can enjoy the festivities.

Paying for the bachelor party can be a delicate issue and is one that is best handled well before the event itself. The person in charge of the bachelor party planning should take charge of the payment question from the very beginning, so that there are no surprises later.  Those can ruin the camaraderie of a group very quickly; it is much easier to just face the issue from the onset.  Typically, the best man is in charge of the arrangements.  Payment for the activities usually comes from two sources - both the best man and groomsmen split the costs equally or the fathers of the couple chip in or cover the cost.

The composition of the bachelor party can vary from situation to situation.  The best man and all groomsmen should automatically be included, as should the fathers of the bride and groom.  If there are other close male relatives of similar age, they may well be included.  The person in charge of bachelor party planning should simply ask the bride and groom for suggestions, so that no one is left out. The groom really does not get much attention in the whole wedding process.  With a little planning, the bachelor party can be a really great way to relax before the madness starts.
